Sword Ban 6th April 2008
As of the 6th April 2008 the Government will be introducing an amendment to the Criminal Justice Act 1988 which will see the addition of some Swords to the Offensive Weapons Order list. This is a list of items prohibited for sale, import, trade of transfer within the UK. There are rumours that all samurai style or long blade swords will be banned (from selling) soon, bad news for martial arts shops and sword shops as well as martial artists and collectors. Ebay has already banned the sale of all samurai swords. Although i am glad the cheap £20 swords etc easy to obtain by anyone of any age are banned from ebay i feel that this is bad news for many interested in samurai swords for their martial art or personal collection. Many shops have already lost business and have stopped/stopping selling swords. I can see the point of cracking down on stabbings and crime etc but think that this is the wrong un-democratic way of doing it. You dont see that many people being attacked by samurai swords everyday. find further info about this here http://www.akct.org/page29.html What are your thoughts on this?
