martial arts legends
who do you think is the biggest martial arts legend?

Budo- 03-17-2008

Easy............ has to be Bruce doesn't it, certainly the most famous. Infact Big Boss is on TV right now as i type lol. However to choose the biggest ma legend not to appear in any commercial movies would be a tricky one.... Possibly Royce Gracie???

merco876- 03-17-2008

gracie, is that the UFC fighter ?

Budo- 03-17-2008

That’s the one, well there's been a few legendary members of the Gracie family involved in MMA and the UFC, Royce most famous for the early establishing UFC tournaments though. Also legendary for popularising Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the rest of the world.

The 'biggest' martial arts legend has to be Sammo Hung doesn't it? Respect to the Gracie's they have had a bit of bad press lately but they are true martial artists that have been awesome for the art of jiu jitsu and for mma

Tommy- 03-23-2008

Gichin Funakoshi...?

jkd_bengolding- 03-24-2008

HI all... i believe that the best fighter in the world has to be Sakuraba Kazushi aka the gracie hunter... hes amazing have a look on youtube.

jkd_bengolding- 03-24-2008

if we talk talk about all famous fighters that have ever lived... Bruce Lee is 100% the best fighter to ever live but if were talkin about the ones that are fighting and competing now i'd say the gracie hunter but thats in my opinion

Budo- 03-24-2008

Sakuraba is awesome I love his fighting style (great entrances too) he has it all, is he still fighting (competing) haven’t seen a recent fight of his, hope so as he’s very entertaining and is a very skilful fighter

Tommy- 03-25-2008

Yep remember though that the best martial arts legend isn't neccessarily the best fighter, i think Bruce Lee has to be the biggest legend in martial arts but as for the best fighter... thats a tough one could do with a new thread of its own, i would say maybe Fedor Emelyanenko. I will start a new thread on the best mma fighters ever as to not divert this one.

If u want a TRUE Martial Arts Legend, you will never be able to get it. Since a very long time, many martial arts legends have been known. But none of them is "a little better". There are some martial arts legends that have never even shown up. They become old aged & then start teaching their pupils. So, there are many MA legends living or dead of the same standard. You guys know very little of them. But there are thousands. So, it is very, very difficult to judge the best MA legend(atleast for me, it is).

BB thats true that there are thousands of martial artists past and present that will be a lot more skilled than most of the martial artists that are famous or 'legendary' today. But if they are not known obviously they can't be included in the biggest known martial arts legend list. (Not the most skilled) For someone to achieve legendary 'status' they need to be known or heard of at least. So out of the martial artists that 'are known' who do you think is the most legendary?

Budo- 08-31-2008

I think the problem is biggest legend is quite an open term, who do you think is the most famous martial artist ever? and Who do you think is the most skilled martial artist ever? may be better terms but even then its not clear cut as 1, its a persons subjective opinion therefore can never be wrong  and 2, what does most skilled mean? Best fighter? Most technical? Most experienced? etc etc so it's hard to answer but just for debate sake lets have a go. Without meaning to hijack your post merco if you don't mind i would like to split this post into 3 questions for people to answer... 1) Most famous martial artist ever? 2) Most skillful/experienced known martial artist ever? 3) Most accomplished 'known' martial arts fighter ever? Still hard to answer but may be a little clearer, give it a go

Fine with me 1) Jackie Chan 2) Wong Fei Hung 3) Rickson Gracie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wong_Fei_Hung
