Karate, A Peasant Or Noble Martial Art? What was the true origin of karate and kobudo, was it developed mainly by peasants, farmer and fisherman, spiritual men/monks or warrior caste and/or nobility? Seems to me that Takahara, Sakugawa, Sokon bushi Matsumura, Yasutsune Itosu and Yasutsune Azato as well as others were all from upper class positions in society, although the sociecty class system at the time may not have been as rigid as mainland Japan it was present and may of had an influence on the type of combat practised depending on the role/lives of the early karate pioneers, what do you think?
