Hikite, 'Pullback' Hand? In most styles of karate when striking the non striking hand is usually returned to around the hip or chest area in most basic techniques, do you do this in your style? Do you do it in kumite? What do you believe the point/emphasis/use of hikite is, why not keep it up in a guard position as in boxing? It is believed Kushanku taught Sakugawa Kumiuchi-jutsu i.e. grappling and fighting techniques which included the principle of hikite.
What are your thoughts on this, why do you believe the hikite hand is returned in basic karate techniques (and some kung fu styles) is it to make the punch stronger, if so how? Or does it serve another purpose? Do you think it should be practised or is it not practical :?:
