Aggressive or Relaxed during combat? Aggressive or Relaxed during combat, which is best and should we aim for?
On the streets outbursts of sudden anger and aggression, verbal and physical, yelling at your attacker "STAY THE F**K BACK OR IL RIP YOUR FU**ING HEAD OFF YOU STUPID C**T"! etc can help trigger the flight response and can help in changing the aggressor (predator) to the one on the back foot (prey). When the adrenalin is pumping and we are angry its easier to enter an animal like primal mind set and sudden outbursts of aggression can help with physical and mental strength to help us take away the threat of the aggressor in one way or another. Also training in this manner now and again (pressure -*test*-('")ing) as many call it, using verbal and physical aggression can make you more used to it so it's not as much of a shock when it happens to you on the street.
However in most martial arts and sports such as karate or boxing you are constantly taught to stay relaxed and as calm as possible in such situations. It is thought that a clear relaxed mind and body will enable you to react better and deliver your skilled techniques more effectively and can be helpful in deceiving/shocking the opponent. 8) Which method do you prefer, train, would use and think is most effective in a self defence situation?

Very interesting question Mushin I have often thought about this I havn't replied as have been waiting to see what others think first instead of me always replying but I'll post my thoughts on this soon. Personally I have been experimenting mixing it up a little changing the aggressive/relaxed approach not only between offence and defence but also with go-no-sen, tai-no-sen and sen-no-sen etc.
Good post, anyone got any views on this?

I would say aggression, turn the predator into the prey and make them feel the flight response, if you are going to fight back then fight with everything you have, knowone wants to fight the psycho guy :)
